for you
Are you a strategic thinker, (journalistic) creator, or media disruptor seeking to tell richer stories? Weโll collaborate on a narrative approach that meets audience demands for constructive stories, is inclusive and generates impact. The rapidly changing world needs better representation in narratives and more purposeful storytellers. Those who are willing to self-reflect, unlearn, and not simply follow the next marketing strategy hype peddled by wannabe gurus. The ones that think independently, consider solutions from various perspectives and aren't afraid to take decisive action. Is that you?
train
I can teach you and your team Solutions Journalism, Complicating the Narrative, and Digital Strategy and help you build a workflow.
Mentor
I can guide you or your colleague in storytelling or management and help you prioritize, build confidence and embrace change.
Advise
I’ll show you how to enrich your storytelling, build a team and workflow, work inclusively and understand decolonization.

Solutions Journalism Retreat, May 2023
โGreat Solutions Journalism retreat with an interesting and varied program. The different parts of the program turned out to be interconnected which added depth to the overall experience. The location in the beautiful Frisian countryside, with lovely food and interesting people, made it a retreat to remember!โ

โSanne has been our mentor through the Solutions Journalism Accelerator by the European Journalism Centre and the Solutions Journalism Network. Sheโs been incredibly supportive and encouraging while providing useful challenges to help us develop and progress in our work. Sheโs really helped me think through how to write and commission articles.โ

HI,โIโm Sanne

Online training allows collaboration across borders, like here with journalists from Nagorno-Karabakh in Yerevan, Armenia.
In a resilient approach to online learning, I create a safe space for you and your colleagues, using interactive tools and exercises, breakout room discussions and enough breaks to stretch the legs. Reach out if you want me to facilitate or moderate your training or webinar.

โWhat the earth is exhausted of is not its resources, what it has lost is its meaning. This is the great burden that now rests upon writers, artists, filmmakers, and everyone else who is involved in the telling of stories: to us falls the task of imaginatively restoring agency and voice to nonhumans.โ

Frequently Asked Questions
What are your rates?
I have been doing projects in Europe and Southeast Asia. The rates differ for that reason. For Western Europe, my advisor rate lies between 800- 1200 Euros per day, depending on the project. I use separate rates for commercial and public projects and clients.
Why are you as a white woman focusing on inclusion and decolonization?
I believe that especially people from the dominant group in society should focus on representation and self-reflection. Besides that, decolonization/decoloniality is about realizing everyone’s position in society and seeing how to collaborate. I make space for underrepresented colleagues wherever and whenever possible.
Who are some of your clients and partners?
I work as the manager of Northern Europe for Sembra Media in Project Oasis Europe, a research into digital native media. I do freelance journalism training and project management for the Thomson Reuters Foundation (TRF) and for the climate consultancy bureau Imagine2050. I’m a mentor in the Solutions Journalism grant of the European Journalism Center (EJC) and the Solutions Journalism Network (SJN), and I’m mentoring the project management team of the data journalism advice bureau Thibi.
